Polartec Jackets- made by me
I have always been a huge lover of all things cozy and warm. I have enjoyed the nicer clothing from big brands like northface and pategonia. I also was a dreamer thinking how cool it would be to create my own line of fleece jackets that i can wear at the lake on fall hikes, during winter trail skis and during the cool months of spring as we enjoy the sun and outdoors.
Fast forward to today when i come upon an amazing supplier that brings in polartec, has the same vision of sustainable / slow fashion as i do. I take the risk and dive deep into learning about the mechanics of what is in polartec, and repreve fabrics.
Here is some info on the different types of polartec that i have currently offered.
Polartec Thermal Pro
was developed to bring a wider range of styles and performance functionality to synthetic fleece technologies. By re-engineering their construction methods, they created an expansive platform of fabric structures with superior benefits over traditional fleece. These unique textures enhance the fabric's overall efficiency and are the defining reason why synthetic fleece will never go out of style as the preferred choice for performance insulation fabrics.
All of these styles are incredibly comfy and soft and all are considered warmer than traditional 200 weight classic fleece.
200 Weight Classic Fleece
In 1981, Polartec forever changed the way the world dresses for cold weather with the invention of polar synthetic fleece and Classic 200 is the fleece that started it all. This fleece replaced traditional wool as the go-to all-purpose insulating layer fabric of choice.
After more than 30 years their fleece remains the cornerstone of thermal insulating materials for its proven durability, lightweight warmth and fast drying characteristics. The quality is achieved by using premium hydrophobic polyester yarns to repel moisture and speed up drying. The lofted fibers create thermal air pockets to retain warmth while providing optimal breathability.
High Loft Polartec
Polartec High Loft has the largest warmth to weight ratio of all Polartec fleeces. This is accomplished by trapping warm body heat within the air pockets between the lofted fibers. The yarns themselves are hydrophobic so they do not absorb moisture, making a fleece that allows moisture vapour to escape during exertion and will dry quickly when washed/wet. High Loft has a very soft hand and begs to be made into cozy pullovers and jackets .
I would love for you to check out the parkland which is my staple go too zip up that works for all 3 of these fabrics for a cozy jacket. There are several other styles recommended for desired fits. Please reach out with any questions.
